Local Knowledge

Students spotlight Koganecho locally-owned shops, including longstanding shops operating since before World War II, those established after the war, as well as shops which moved into Koganecho from elsewhere. Researchers unearth historical knowledge about Koganecho area and its shops through interviews with shop owners on topics such as their business motives and inspiration, their relationships with other local businesses, and the shops' unique characteristics. Furthermore, by using video recordings, students document each shop's appearance and the tools, skills and craftsmanship which has been passed down from generation to generation.
